Excellent water quality

Shell Bay North is at the mouth of Poole Harbour on the Dorset coast, and is part of the Purbeck Heritage Coast. It is a quiet sandy beach, approximately 660 metres wide, backed by sand dunes. A stream flows across the northern end of the beach.

The most recent Environment Agency water quality classification is 'Excellent' , based on samples taken from 2022-05-10 through to 2025-09-20.
